What it's like
The 992-generation Carrera S — 443 hp from a twin-turbo flat-six, telepathic handling and genuine daily usability. The 911 that does everything, brilliantly.
In Malaysian terms: it seats 4, it has 2 doors, and the gearbox is 8-speed pdk, so there is no clutch pedal to think about while you are also adapting to driving on the left. It runs on RON97, the yellow pump, which is available everywhere and costs a fraction of what you pay at home. Every rental leaves us with a full tank and a loaded Touch 'n Go card in the holder.
Be mindful of ground clearance. Malaysian side roads have unmarked speed bumps and steep drainage lips, so plan your parking before you set off and take village roads gently.
Where to take it
These are the routes we'd point you at with this car specifically, and why.
Long, fast, sweeping and largely straight — this is grand-touring country. A GT-R or an M4 sits at a legal cruise all day and still has the mid-range to make an overtake decisive rather than hopeful. You want stability and quiet at speed here, not a stiff track car.
